Welcome back to another one of these update posts! March has been quite an eventful month so far, and I’ve just started 2 weeks of March break :)
Site and social activities
No major changes to my website. The recipes page was updated to provide some public recipe links on my Tandoor instance. There aren’t many right now, but I’m anticipating to add a few more in the coming months.
I wrote one blog post:
I’ve also enjoyed being back on Mastodon, although since setting up a Twitter to Mastodon crossposter, my feed has just become a wall of CW: From Twitter
. I will try and retweet less often.
I’ve been streaming some random activities on Twitch, so if you are interested, feel free to follow me there!
University
I don’t think I’ve talked about it much ever, but why not start giving updates here?
Basically, I applied to 5 universities1 back in October - all for Computer Science. I’ve been accepted to one so far (my second choice, decisions are made by end of May), and this past weekend attended their virtual open house activities. There’s also an in-person tour that I’ll be attending next week!
I’d need to live off campus (away from home), so I’ve started off the slow process of creating various lists - notes about the courses, meal planning & recipes, moving stuff, things I’d need to buy/ know, how I’d take transit home to visit, etc. So, if anyone has any advice for a future first-year uni student living on their own, anything at all, please let me know here or on this thread :)
Programming
Uhh, I switched from VSCodium to Doom Emacs. I’ve used (Doom) Emacs on and off throughout the past two years, but it will likely stick with VSCodium as a backup. Here are my dotfiles, of course. What’s great about Doom Emacs is how most of the configuration that I’d need to do in plain Emacs are already done and usually close to how I’d like them.
Recently, I found Project Euler and have been working through those questions in Python.
On the self-hosted front, I will probably get my sh^t together in the summer with nicer configurations/ setups/ backups, before university starts and I don’t have as much time to spend on that.
Habits
Trying to resurrect two habits I started in the summer of 2020, learning Dutch (through Duolingo) and touch typing using the Dvorak keyboard layout. I’ve found that with using the QWERTY layout, which I never learned “properly”, I tend to favour the left hand - which gets tired easily.
Also skincare because my skin is sorta dry :P
Music
My playlist for this quarter2:
Also, I’ve been listening to some German music lately, here’s a separate playlist for that.
In other news, I’ve booked my RCM Level 6 piano exam for two weeks from now, so not a lot of time to get ready :/ Out of everything, my scales are probably the worse. This is the last prerequisite I’ve yet to do, and of course I’ll hopefully do my violin ARCT exam in the coming months.
That’s all for this month, see you soon!
